Shipping Stuff to Japan
« on: »

It seems like you either take all or nothing to Japan. A 20 foot container is pretty huge and seems like the most value in terms of volume and weight of items to be shipped. The snag is the time it takes to ship via land/sea. I'm not sure how long it takes yet, I think it's around 8 weeks.

Sending items by air freight is expensive but quick.

Or the other idea is to only take what fits into your suitcase and start again from scratch.

I bought a laptop so I won't be without the internet or a computer for any length of time. Also, it will be useful for playing DVDs and music. So I won't need a TV or HiFi system in Japan. And of course it contains all my data and documents. I got a relatively low cost model but it's got everything I need including a widescreen 15.4" display.

For me, the only essential item to take is a laptop.  Smiley
